The text of the interview of Natalia Andronova, CEO ATLANTIS LINE (on the new project COSMIC MOSCOW)

with TV host Alexander Eliseyev, director of RTR Travel channel

Alexander Eliseyev:

Good afternoon! We continue the live broadcast from MITF fair. Today we have pleasure to meet Natalia Andronova, the representative and general partner of the fair, the managing director of ATLANTIS LINE company and the head of Cosmic Moscow project. Natalia, your company is well known at the market as the serious company dealing with sea cruises, tours, cruise liners – large beautiful ships - and suddenly we hear that ATLANTIS LINE now opens up the new project – similar liners, only daring not waters but the air – Cosmic Moscow. What is this project about? Where does it originate from? Why did you decide to shift from one kind of liners to the other?

Natalia Andronova:

It is the most frequent question that we are asked now. In fact, the word "cosmonautics" literally means "cruises around the universe", that’s why to us it is very close by philosophy. We have decided not to re-qualify but add new field of aсtivity. In sea cruises we have managed to achieve considerable success, we are official partners of the world 's most famous cruise brands and the general representative of the number 1 cruise company in the world - Carnival. By the opinion of international experts ATLANTIS LINE company was able to achieve the phenomenal breakthrough in Russian market with such innovative product as sea cruises. Applying our accumulated experience and world technology we’d like to create true Russian national tourist product based on space exploration.

Alexander Eliseyev:

Natalia, tell us how have You got the idea to address the space theme exactly?

Наталья Андронова:

Our company ATLANTIS LINE has long been engaged not only in outgoing but domestic tourism, too. Since we prefer to do all at large scale we have analyzed the situation and come to the conclusion that the space-related tourism now is the most attractive direction from the point of view of the idea that can be developed in interesting and fascinating way. The idea that can facilitate to present tourism opportunities of Moscow in entirely new light, specifically as Cosmic Moscow, and show it from that angle both to domestic market and international tourists

In general, the project was born by considering trends in modern world tourist industry where event tourism plays enormous role. It is very important to shrewdly select the event, for it has to be truly large-scale one and offer the appropriate potential in order it could be promoted. As for our project it is based not only on world event but on the planetary-size one. Breakthrough into outer Space. The humanity was aspiring for it for so many centuries, yet is has happened in Russia and due to Russia. That is, the event is the moment of truth and it is our, Russian event. The twelfth of April is the day of Cosmonautics. In 2011 it has been recognized as the International Day of Cosmonautics, yet the event has taken place in Russia. Moreover, Russia, and Moscow especially, possesses a large number of world-class places related to space – the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, the Planetarium, one of the oldest and largest in Europe and these days the astonishingly renovated one. The Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics after its reconstruction has become one of the world best museums on the theme. We also have the Geology Museum of Russian Academy of Sciences – there there is the unique collection of meteorites, at the same time meteorites nowadays attract enormous interest of everyone.

Alexander Eliseyev:

And here we are, Russia was once again recently marked by it.

Natalia Andronova:

Indeed, Russia is again distinguished. Now one may go to the Museum of Geology and look at meteorites, including the one that has made a splash around the world. That is why we even have specially brought huge meteorite weighing 38 kilos to this fair, thanks to the Museum of Geology Sciences of Russian Academy of Sciences. It wasn’t easy, for it is a museum piece, however here it is now. People come to it, make a wish, because according to a legend, if someone touches a meteorite and makes a wish, it will come true. Do You know how the legend was born? When a star falls from the sky, people say, one has to hurry up and make his wish, while meteorites are those "falling stars".

Alexander Eliseyev:

In this way, our viewers have the unique opportunity to come to the exhibition and make their wishes?

Natalia Andronova:

Of course! Come to the exhibition and make a wish, touching the magnificent meteorite that has arrived to us yet in 1922. Besides, here at the show you may chat with the real cosmonaut whom we have invited to the fair Alexander Lazutkin. That is also the unique opportunity for visitors.

Alexander Eliseyev:

Tell me, the itinerary we are talking about - Cosmic Moscow – is it the itinerary for one day, one hour or a programme that is meant for several days?

Natalia Andronova:

No, that programme is very global. First of all, we have united very good partners - all heads of attraction sites that I have mentioned, they are all very much inspired by the project. Now we have developed the fundamentals of the strategy and will promote the project very actively, with all sorts of innovative resources. Also, our project is supported and aided in its implementation by the Committee on Tourism of Moscow Government.

Alexander Eliseyev:

As for a tourist, if we speak about the programme of a tour, it could be an itinerary for exploring Cosmic Moscow for a few days?

Natalia Andronova:

Concerning that, there is a huge scope for activities, by all means. It includes quite a number of "space" sightseeing tours, unique interactive programmes, even here at the fair we have a man in space suit. That is the authentic space suit that we have created ourselves. For instance, when someone comes to a museum he is told not to touch anything with hands, here you can walk up to the space suit and take a picture with it, people like that. The future of tourism development lies in interactivity, “eventual” approach and involvement. That is why here at the fair we try to show how it can be done differently – here is the real meteorite, the real space suit, a man in the suit, that sort of things is really enjoyed by people. If we speak about the project, we have carefully studied the world experience and I believe that the project has absolutely outstanding perspectives. For example, the Museum in Washington, DC, i.e., Air and Space Museum is annually visited by more than eight million people. That demonstrates the enormous interest to the subject. In addition, our project Cosmic Moscow will contribute to the revival of respect for cosmonautics.

Alexander Eliseyev:

Natalia, it turns out that your project is supplemented with additional missions – patriotic education and respect for your own country.

Natalia Andronova:

Yes, we are confident that with the help of our project we will be able to change the perception of Russia at world stage and by Russians themselves. These days tourism has a great potential by its influence on perception, by means of tourism people get experience of countries’ culture and from images and opinions. We’d like very much that Russia would be perceived not only as an “exporter of matryoshka dolls", although I don’t oppose them. Yet, Russia has other achievements, too, cosmonautics - the symbol of the most progressive things in the world, it has the real heroes of the country. By our tourist project Cosmic Moscow the objective information about this great country can be conveyed.

Alexander Eliseyev:

Do You cover only Moscow or some other Russian cities?

НNatalia Andronova:

Naturally, we develop the project as the federal one, there are lots of places in Russia related to space. Many regions of Russia have expressed their wish to join the project. Cosmic Moscow is the part of our larger tourism project Cosmic Russia. Anyway, Moscow is the capital of Russia and the city has the highest concentration of places of interest, so we have timed the pilot launch of the project to coincide with Moscow International Travel Fair .

Alexander Eliseyev:

Natalia, do You consider in the future to endeavour on real space tourism?

Natalia Andronova:

Indeed, there are such plans. That is extremely promising direction. Personally I admire what Richard Branson and his Virgin Galactic implements in the development of commercial space flights. We hope that our project will serve as a stimulus for the development of similar projects in Russia. And certainly we will not stay then on the sideline.

Alexander Eliseyev:

Natalia, you have really offered the very interesting and new project to the market. I wish you all success in its implementation!

Natalia Andronova:

Thank you, Alexander, for Your wishes and the invitation to come to Your studio!
